“We are here to lead a revolution. But it is not a violent revolution or an angry revolution or a vengeful revolution. We are here to lead the inclusion revolution, a revolution of the heart.” – Tim Shriver, Special Olympics Chairman
But a more inclusive community is one built by ALL of us. So we need YOU. Will you join us at our largest event in Virginia Beach, Fall Championships, and take the first step to building a world rich in love, not fear? Whether you’re a Fall Championships veteran or a first-time fan, this year’s event offers a multitude of opportunities for you to make a difference.
At Fall Championships, 1000+ inspiring athletes will go for gold and fans are encouraged to sign up to cheer online at volunteer2cheer.com. Outdoor cheering opportunities are open Saturday, Nov. 3 and Sunday, Nov. 4 at our soccer and bocce competitions, which will take place at the Hampton Roads Soccer Complex. For times, the venues address and to sign up, visit volunteer2cheer.com.
In addition, more than 100 local law enforcement officers from the Hampton Sheriff's Office, Hampton Police Department, Newport News Police Department, the Newport News Sheriff's Office and the Christopher Newport University Police Department, alongside members of the local community, will run the Flame of Hope through Hampton and Newport News Friday, lighting the way for the weekend's competitions.
In Hampton, the run will commence at 9:30 am in the Peninsula Town Center at the intersection of Merchant Lane and Kilgore Avenue. From Kilgore Avenue, runners will turn right on Mercury Blvd. and will conclude at the Wawa located at 5280 Mercury Blvd. In Newport News, the run will commence at Christopher Newport University’s POMOCO Stadium at 1 pm, and will extend 1, 2, 3 or 4 miles, depending on your preferred distance. The run concludes in front of the Newport News Marriott at City Center. Everyone is invited and encouraged to join the officers to show support not only for Special Olympics, but also for all law enforcement officers who protect and serve our communities each day. In addition, fans are invited to cheer on the officers as they make their way through town.
