This #GivingTuesday, Special Olympics Virginia’s Young Professionals Board (YPB) is encouraging fans and friends to #GiveOpportunity to seven incredible Special Olympics Virginia athletes traveling to Abu Dhabi this spring to compete in World Games by making a donation to their online campaign.

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, this year’s #GivingTuesday will take place on November 27 and will kick off the giving season by inspiring people to collaborate and give back.
The YPB is setting out to raise $10,000 on #GivingTuesday, which will help offset the costs of sending seven Virginia athletes to Abu Dhabi this March to compete with Team USA at the 2019 Special Olympics World Games. It will cost Special Olympics Virginia nearly $50,000 to cover travel and equipment expenses. For most Special Olympics athletes, World Games is an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. After months of training, their skills are showcased in front of a global crowd, and they have the power to inspire everyone watching.
“A priority at Special Olympics Virginia is to engage young people as leaders. We want to build a network of young volunteer leaders who will take personal responsibility; constantly learn; and engage others in the community. The Special Olympics Virginia Young Professionals Board is just such a group. On #GivingTuesday, our YPB will lead our giving initiative,” Rick Jeffrey, Special Olympics Virginia President.
Those who are interested in joining Special Olympics Virginia’s #GivingTuesday initiative can go to www.specialolympicsva.org/who-we-are/young-professionals-board for more details, or give directly here. In addition to the online fundraising portion of the campaign, the Young Professionals Board also invites you to join them for a #GivingTuesday Celebration event at Vasen Brewery (3331 W Moore St, Richmond, VA 23230) from 7-9 p.m. on the 27.
