Coming to a court near you … 1000+ Special Olympics Virginia athletes will go for gold at the annual Special Olympics Virginia Basketball Championships, a fun, family-friendly way to score one for respect and spread unity. And we need you to help make it LOUD!!
Special Olympics Virginia’s Basketball Championships take place March 25 from 8 am to 5 pm at various middle and high schools in Stafford and Fredericksburg, including Colonial Forge High School (550 Courthouse Road), Dixon Smith Middle School (503 Deacon Road), Drew Middle School (501 Cambridge Street), H.H. Poole Middle (800 Eustace Road), North Stafford High School (839 Garrisonville Road), Stafford High School (63 Stafford Indians Lane), Stafford Middle School (101 Spartan Lane), Thompson Middle School (75 Walpole Street) and A. G. Wright Middle School (100 Wood Drive). Competitions will take place all day and include full court games, half court games, individual skill drills and unified games, where players with and without disabilities play on the same team. Additionally, 10 of the teams competing will be local to the Stafford/Spotsylvania/Fredericksburg area.

Basketball Championships, presented by GEICO with additional support from Booz Allen Hamilton, is one of many events offered year round by Special Olympics Virginia. In addition to Saturday’s action, GEICO also helps organize and star in Friday’s All-Star Friday Night Opening Ceremony at Colonial Forge High School. The Ceremony begins at 7:30 pm and features a Unified basketball game, half-time show and the lighting of the Olympic Cauldron.
