Forms required for Class A volunteers (coaches, chaperones, non-hired drivers, Unified Partners, HODs) can be found in Volunteer Resources. For current sports rules, please visit our Sports section.

Housing Guidelines: Area programs are required to follow our housing guidelines at all overnight Special Olympics Virginia events. Questions regarding these guidelines can be directed to Dave Pawlowski, Vice President of Sports, Health and Fitness, at [email protected].

Volunteer Eligibility Requirements: All Unified Partners, Coaches, Chaperones and HOD's must be Class A eligible in order to attend events. This requirement applies to the local, regional and state level. Any volunteers who are not Class A eligible (see Volunteer Resources for details) by the deadline will be considered ineligible and will not be allowed to attend with their delegation. It is a violation of our insurance policy to bring any ineligible or unregistered volunteers to events. These volunteers are not considered registered with our program by our insurance company and therefore, the area carries all liability in case of injury or claims.

Additionally, coaches for sports must take a mandatory concussion test that MUST be completed by registration. You may take the concussion training here and when finished, please email your certificate to [email protected]

Athlete Eligibility Requirements: All athletes must have a signed Medical and Release Form on file with the Harrisonburg office to be considered eligible to participate in any Special Olympics Virginia programs. Athletes should get or update their medicals at the start of training season. Athletes are not allowed to practice or compete without valid forms on file. Any athlete who does not have valid forms on file with the Harrisonburg office is considered not eligible for Special Olympics Virginia and may not participate in any programs until the forms are received. Please see the dates below for exact deadlines in which to turn in forms.
