5600+ Raise $1,330,000+ at Virginia Polar Plunge® Winter Fests in February

In February, 5600+ dashed and splashed at 4 Polar Plunge® Winter Fests, raising more than $1,330,000 for Special Olympics Virginia. This year, they were bold, cold and shockingly stylish in custom bow ties!

“Our athletes face a number of foes and opponents each day but none is more pervasive than low expectations,” said Rick Jeffrey, Special Olympics Virginia President. “The community’s support of these events shows a commitment to celebrating what our athletes and communities can achieve when we play and live unified.”

Plunges took place in Virginia Beach, where we celebrated our 5th million dollar year; in Northern Virginia at Tim’s Rivershore Restaurant & Crabhouse, with $85,000 raised; in Southwest Virginia at Bisset Park in the New River Valley, with $40,000 raised; and an inaugural plunge in Richmond into an above ground pool, with $25,000 raised.

All proceeds from the events benefit the program’s more than 30,000 athletes and volunteers. Thank you to everyone who plunged, ran, volunteered, organized, sponsored and cheered at the coolest events of the year. You warmed our hearts!
