More than 50 speed skaters took to the ice on March 1-2 at our Speed Skating Championships in Richmond. The competition featured athletes from across Virginia, as well as delegations from Special Olympics Georgia and Special Olympics North Carolina.

Our athletes were especially excited when on Sunday morning, fresh off the ice in Sochi, Team USA Olympic short track speed skater Emily Scott wished our athletes good luck on Facebook! Emily's words of encouragement, as well as our volunteers and coaches' cheers, inspired our athletes to skate their fastest on Sunday.

Thanks to our volunteers from Capital One, James Madison University's Alternative Break Program, the RVA Beard League, Fort Lee, and Shamin Hotels who made Speed Skating Championships an amazing weekend to remember for our athletes, coaches, and staff! Thanks also to Capital One for sponsoring the event, and to Sheetz for providing lunch on Sunday.
