Volunteers
Volunteers are the backbone of the Special Olympics movement. There are many ways to help: working directly with athletes in their training as either a volunteer or coach, assisting at an athletic competition or fundraiser or serving on the Council.
Sports
We offer year round sports training and competitions in 11 different sports. These provide opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate perseverance, experience joy and form friendships with other athletes and their families.
Sports
Whether your interest is competitive or social in nature, we want you on our team. We provide year-round athletic training and competitions all at NO COST to our athletes. Anyone age 8 or older who has an intellectual disability can become a Special Olympics athlete.

The swimming program pairs individuals with intellectual disabilities with a partner for individualized instruction. Swimsuit is required!

Unified Bocce
St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1205 Old Mill Rd, Blacksburg. Ages 8 and up.
Never played Bocce? It's easy to learn and for all ability levels!
All members of the Special Olympics community (coaches, partners, family members, volunteer groups and caregivers) are welcome to join! This activity is led by Coaches Matt and Jill Wheeler and will meet each Sunday afternoon 2-4 pm.
