Daniel King Brings Home Medals at 2025 Special Olympics World Games

Virginia speed skater earns three medals on the global stage

Daniel King trained for years to represent Special Olympics USA on the global stage. That goal became a reality when he arrived in Turin, Italy, for the 2025 Special Olympics World Winter Games. Competing in speed skating, King earned three medals for his performance.

He secured: 🥉 Bronze in the 1000m 🥈 Silver in the 500m 🥈 Silver in the 777m

"Just being here, knowing it's a once-in-a-lifetime thing. I think it's a wonderful experience," King said.

King competed under the guidance of Coach Chris Steele, who is from Norfolk, Virginia. Steele has been involved with Special Olympics for more than 25 years as a parent, coach, volunteer, fundraiser, and board member. He served as a coach for short track speed skating at the World Games, bringing years of experience in training athletes for high-level competition.

The Special Olympics World Winter Games, held from March 8-15, 2025, brought together more than 1,500 athletes from 100 delegations. Competitors participated in eight sports, promoting inclusion and sportsmanship on an international level.

King’s success highlights his dedication to the sport and the support of his coaches, family, and Special Olympics Virginia.

His performance in Turin adds to his accomplishments in speed skating and represents the strength of Special Olympics Virginia athletes on the world stage.
