Global Messengers Class of 2026 Begins Training in Richmond

Athletes and mentors came together in Richmond to start their journey as advocates for inclusion.

This past weekend, the Global Messengers Class of 2026 gathered at our Richmond office for their first training session. These athletes and their mentors came together to learn skills that will help them share their stories and promote the mission of Special Olympics Virginia.

Training Focus

Over the weekend, athletes worked on writing and delivering speeches that tell their personal experiences with Special Olympics. Each athlete presented their speech to the group, using the feedback and support they received to build confidence.

The training focused on practical skills, including:

  • Communicating effectively with different audiences.
  • Sharing their Special Olympics story in a clear and meaningful way.
  • Using their role to educate others about inclusion and opportunity for people with intellectual disabilities.
Global Messengers Class of 2026
Every two years since 2005, we have recruited and trained a new class of Global Messengers. The 2026 Class of Global Messengers has 12 participants and 12 mentors. To get to know the current class of Global Messengers click on their names to read their bios.
