Sergeant Adam Bernstein of the Virginia Beach Police Department has long been a champion for Special Olympics Virginia and the Law Enforcement Torch Run. With over 20 years of service, he has played a key role in fundraising, organizing events, and leading initiatives that support athletes at every level. His dedication earned him the honor of being the first inductee into the Max Everton Hall of Fame.
Now, Sgt. Bernstein is in the midst of an incredible journey as part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run® Final Leg for the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Turin, Italy. From March 1 to March 8, he is carrying the prestigious Flame of Hope through cities across Italy, serving as a Guardian of the Flame® alongside law enforcement officers and Special Olympics athletes from around the world.
The journey began with the ceremonial lighting of the Flame of Hope in Athens, Greece, followed by a blessing from the Pope in Rome. Since March 1, Sgt. Bernstein and the Final Leg team have been traveling across the Piedmont Region of Italy, bringing awareness to the Special Olympics movement as they make their way to Turin. Their mission will culminate at the Opening Ceremony on March 8, where the torch will ignite the cauldron to officially begin the Games.
Sgt. Bernstein’s participation in this prestigious event is a testament to his unwavering commitment to Special Olympics and the Torch Run. His leadership and passion continue to inspire, and we are proud to see him representing Virginia on the world stage as he helps carry the Flame of Hope forward.
