James "JP" Mines has been involved with Special Olympics for over 10 years, starting as a 2-year-old in the Special Olympics Young Athletes Program. From North Chesterfield, VA, JP participates in roller skating, ice skating, basketball, and track & field, and has attended numerous regional and state competitions.
One of his favorite Special Olympics memories is serving as the torch bearer at the Polar Plunge.
I like doing sports with my school friends. We win medals. We cheer for each other; and they come to my birthday party. I love Special Olympics; it gave me sports, teammates, and friends.
