LESSON OVERVIEW
Opening Sports Song with Scarf (5 min) – Start each Young Athletes class with a gathering/warm-up song with motions using a scarf.
Follow the Leader (5 min) – Be creative! Side Step, Bunny Hop, Inch Worm are possibilities.
Run and Carry (6 min) – Place a floor marker at each end of the room. Place the ball, bean bag and scarf on one floor marker. The athlete runs the objects one at a time to the other floor marker.
Running Styles (4 min) – Practice running/walking styles such as slow, fast, backwards, high knees and on tiptoes.
Obstacle Course (7 min) – Set up an obstacle course with floor markers for jumping on, cones to weave around and the balance beam/rope/floor tape to walk on before running to the finish line.
Closing Sports Song (3 min) – You did it! Sing along and do the motions that accompany the song.
