Young Athletes Curriculum

Week Three, Lesson One

LESSON OVERVIEW

Opening Sports Song (4 min) – Get ready to move! Sing along and do the motions that accompany the song.

"Coach Says" (5 min) – The child imitates the action of the coach. Try standing on one foot, standing with one foot in front of the other, standing on tip toes, standing on heels. Too easy? Try these variations with arms out/in/up/down.

Balance Beam/Ropes (4 min) – Place a piece of tape or the rope on the floor. Walk along the balance beam nice and straight!

Foot Trap (5 min) – Start with your foot on top of the ball. Then, take your foot off and kick the ball to a partner who stops the ball with their foot on top of the ball.

Step and Jump (6 min) – Using your tape/rope and floor markers, the athlete jumps off the tape/rope and tries to land on a floor marker.

Closing Sports Song (5 min) – You did it! Sing along and do the motions that accompany the song.
