LESSON OVERVIEW
Opening Sports Song with Leapin' Lizards (2 min) – Start each Young Athletes class with a gathering/warm-up song with Leapin' Lizard motions.
"Coach Says" with a Bean Bag (3 min) – Adapt the Coach Says Activity by having the athlete first jump on, then over a bean bag. Then play catch with the bean bag.
Jumping High (4 min) – Introduce the skill of jumping over equipment to the athletes. Start jumping over a floor spot and then jump over a cone.
Rolling and Trapping (5 min) – Sit on the floor in pairs facing one another with your legs outstretched in a straddle position so that your legs are touching in the shape of a diamond. Roll the ball back and forth. Advance to rolling the ball on the floor in a kneeling or standing position.
Foot Trap (4 min) – Start with your foot on top of the ball. Then, take your foot off and kick the ball to a partner who stops the ball with their foot on top of the ball.
Frog Hoppin'/Leapin' Lizards (5 min) - Jump on or over floor spots from a standing position. Then run and jump on or over floor spots.
Goalie Drill (5 min) - The athlete stands in-between two cones forming a goal. Roll or kick the ball towards the athlete who stops the ball with their hands or feet.
Closing Sports Song (2 min) – You did it! Sing along and do the motions that accompany the song.
