Eligibility & Guidelines
Athlete Eligibility
All athletes must have a completed Athlete Registration, Medical and Release Form on file with the Richmond office to be eligible to participate in any Special Olympics Virginia programs. Athletes should complete or update their medicals at the start of the training season. Athletes are not allowed to practice or compete without valid forms on file. Any athlete who does not have valid forms on file with the Richmond office is considered ineligible and may not participate in any Special Olympics Virginia programs until the forms are received.
Housing Guidelines
Area programs are required to follow our housing guidelines at all overnight Special Olympics Virginia events. Questions regarding these guidelines can be directed to Dave Pawlowski, Vice President of Sports, Health and Fitness, at dpawlowski@specialolympicsva.org.
Volunteer Eligibility
All Unified Partners, Coaches, Chaperones, and HODs must be Class A eligible in order to attend events. This requirement applies to the local, regional, and state level. Any volunteers who are not Class A eligible (see Volunteer Resources for details) by the deadline will be considered ineligible and will not be allowed to attend with their delegation. It is a violation of our insurance policy to bring any ineligible or unregistered volunteers to events. These volunteers are not considered registered with our program by our insurance company and therefore, the area carries all liability in case of injury or claims.
Concussion Test
Coaches for sports must take a mandatory concussion test that MUST be completed by registration. You may take the concussion training here; when finished, please email your certificate to volunteer@specialolympicsva.org.
