The long-awaited Special Olympics Virginia 2023 Fall Championships are here! And guess what? We are opening with a grand ceremony in Virginia Beach on Saturday, November 4th. Everyone, mark your calendars!
What's Happening?
6 - 7pm: Welcome to the Party! As you walk into the gym, let the rhythmic beats of the Ju Ju Drums group greet you.
Geico is all set to cheer on our amazing athletes. They're creating a cheer tunnel, and guess what? The Chesapeake Cheerleaders will join in too. If you're an athlete, imagine walking through a tunnel of cheers made just for you!
7:15 - 8:15pm: Lighting Up the Night
This is the heart of the evening. Marc Davis, the Sports Director from WTKR, and our very own Special Olympics Virginia star, Nyelly Rivera, will be the main hosts. They'll guide us through the evening.
We have special guest speakers, including some of our brave and talented Special Olympics Virginia athletes. We'll also be hearing from the Knights of Columbus. They've been amazing supporters, and we can't wait to hear from them.
And there's more! We'll also have a special World Games presentation. Wondering what that is? Join us, and find out!
But the most magical moment? The lighting of the Flame of Hope. When that flame lights up, it will symbolize the spirit of every Special Olympics athlete. It's a moment you won't want to miss.
8:15 - 9:30pm: Fun Continues!
Once the formal part is done, it's time to relax and have fun. There's a dance. So get ready to shake a leg and show off your moves. Not a dancer? No problem! How about a game of bingo?
Geico will also have a photo spot. Get a picture to remember this fantastic evening. Plus, there will be Healthy Hearing screenings. A chance to check up on how well you're hearing all those cheers and drums.
