Become a Class A Volunteer

Please follow the instructions below to complete your Class A certification process. Please note these items must be renewed every three years.

Class A Certification
Be sure to complete all steps to become a Class A volunteer.
Step 1 - Class A Form and waivers - *NOW ONLINE!
Fill out your Class A Adult or Minor form. We receive your form the moment you click submit - so no need to email or mail.
Step 2 - Run Your Background Check
Visit Sterling Volunteers to get started. After you register, be sure to enter the Good Deed code (un9a213), which verifies that your background check is being completed for Special Olympics Virginia.

Step 3 - Complete the Trainings
Check out the NEW SO Learning Portal to complete Protective Behaviors (15 minutes). Want to volunteer as a coach? Complete General Orientation (20 minutes) and Concussion Awareness (45 minutes) to gain your coach credentials. Need help with the new Learning Portal? Check out this help guide!
Step 4 - Find Your Local Program
Find out what’s happening in your community and reach out to your Area Coordinator for more information.
Did you know?
All Class A volunteers are mandated reporters. Individuals 18 years and older who are associated with, employed or volunteer with a private sports organization or team are required to report suspected abuse and neglect as soon as possible, but no later than 24 hours after having a suspicion of a reportable offense.
