Walking Clubs

Welcome! A Walking Club is the perfect way for a community to gather regularly to build physical activity and grow social relationships. Everyone, with or without a disability, can participate! Clubs are incredibly accessible and can meet at parks, tracks, trails, fitness centers, or even shopping malls!
What Clubs Receive
Fitness Club Guidebook

Guidebook

Your go-to resource includes 50+ pages on how to start a group, warm-ups, cool-downs, building accountability, intellectual disability, and more!

Walking Club coaches receive a hard copy of the Walking Club Guidebook.
Conversation Cards

Conversation Cards

What three words describe yourself? Can movies change the world? What is the highlight of your week?

Every Club receives 125 Conversation Cards to spark connection and build friendships through meaningful conversation!
Startup Equipment

Health Trackers

Special Olympics Virginia provides a Wyze Watch to every Walking Club athlete who needs one. Steps, distance, calories burned, and heart rate can all be tracked and submitted on their custom Club page on the Be Well app. Learn more here.
Pins

'The First 100' Pins

Grow your Club with built-in motivation through The First 100 pin ladder. When the Club achieves 50, 75, and 100 miles walked together, they will receive a custom pin.

Club coaches can opt-in to this incentive by submitting mileage for verification!

Registering Your Club

All Walking Clubs must be registered through Special Olympics Virginia to be an accredited program that can access and utilize funded resources, volunteer training, general support, and branding.

Complete the online Registered Training Program (RTP) Form below every off-season (summer).

Club Leadership Paperwork and Certification

All Club leaders must be Class-A eligible and a certified Fitness Coach. Visit the Fitness Leaders page for information about these elements. Additionally, learn about the Fitness Captain program where athletes are trained to help lead fitness in their Clubs and sports teams.
